4th of July Handprint Keepsake
This Handprint 4th of July Keepsake craft is a wonderful way to celebrate Independence Day while creating a memorable keepsake with your child. Let’s get started on this fun and patriotic art project!
Materials:
- White cardstock (1 sheet)
- Red construction paper
- Blue construction paper
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Black permanent marker
Step-by-step Instructions:
- Take the red construction paper and cut several strips, each approximately 1 inch wide.
- Glue these red stripes onto the white cardstock, alternating between red and white to resemble the stripes on the American flag. Ensure the white cardstock is fully covered by the stripes.
- Place the blue construction paper on a flat surface.
- Help your child place their hand on the blue paper with their fingers slightly spread apart.
- Gently trace around your child’s hand using a pencil or pen.
- Carefully cut out the traced handprint from the blue construction paper.
- Take the cut-out handprint and position it so that the fingers are facing upwards and the wrist is at the bottom.
- Fold the thumb inward to make it appear as if the hand is holding up the number “4”. The tip of the thumb should touch the palm of the hand.
- Apply glue to the back of the thumb and carefully glue the handprint in this position.
- Using the black marker or pen, write the word “HAPPY” above the handprint. The “H” should be positioned above the fingertips, and the other letters can follow in a gentle curve.
- Write the letters “th” to the right of the handprint, indicating “fourth.”
- Write “OF JULY!” below the handprint.
- Allow the glue to dry completely, and then gently go over the black lettering to ensure it stands out clearly.
